Deploying Autonomous Edge Agents with Cloudflare Workers and MCP
Technical guide to engineering low-latency autonomous agents using Cloudflare Workers AI, Model Context Protocol (MCP), and standard llms.txt interfaces in Greater Houston.
Deploying AI agents on centralized cloud instances often incurs severe latency penalties and architectural bloat. In our Houston lab, we leverage Cloudflare's serverless edge infrastructure to run agent workflows within milliseconds of end users.
With Cloudflare Workers AI, inference runs across distributed global GPUs without maintaining idle container clusters. By binding `env.AI` directly into the worker runtime, an application can execute model inferences with zero cold starts.
To ensure agents can be discovered and audited by external AI systems, we implement the Model Context Protocol (MCP) and publish standardized `llms.txt` and `llms-full.txt` endpoints. External reasoning agents inspect tools, fetch clean markdown documentation without HTML scraping, and initiate structured inquiries programmatically.
This architecture enables autonomous agents to operate within strict boundary permissions: sandboxed execution, non-custodial data handling, and deterministic verification.
